Last night I heard a news story on the BBC World News. The American Food and Drug Administration has finally decided to ban artificially-created transfats from the food chain. These fats were a major part of our food industry until very recent steps to reduce their use. Cheaper than mixing liquid oil and thick fats, companies hydrogenated the liquid oil to change its characteristics. But at a significant cost to our health....
According to the newsflash, the ban will save 7,000 American lives every year and prevent 20,000 heart attacks.
Will the UK do the same? I’m asking our Lib Dem peers to look at this.
"I am so lucky to have a close family where we respect each other and work together. Going back to Glastonbury Tor with a new generation was very emotional – all those wonderful memories of playing together. The Somerset Levels and hills still are our playground."
